Four Corners FurnitureJune 1, 2006
You'll find Four Corners Furniture among the beautiful rolling hills of rural Holmes County. Located on the family farm (down a picturesque lane lined with a long, white fence), the business is owned by Myron Miller. In fact, Myron is the fifth generation of his family to be on the farm. For the past eight years, Myron, along with two of his brothers and numerous other family members, church members and neighbors, has been manufacturing beautiful Amish-crafted furniture. "I started out making outdoor furniture for a retailer, but I soon discovered that business was too seasonal," Myron said. "I knew I could start a retail store of my own here on the farm. People come into this area looking for quality furniture, and thats exactly what we give them here at Four Corners. God has blessed this business so it can provide an income for my family and me, and also for my employees. For that, I am most grateful." The business used to display their furniture in the two farmhouses there on the farm, but early this year, they completed a new showroom. Now, the large, open space and many windows help make their furniture much easier to view than before. You won't find high-pressure sales people breathing down your neck at Four Corners ... but they'll give you all the help you need! Four Corners Furniture manufactures custom-made bedroom and dining room furniture, with a turn-around time of four-to-eight weeks. They specialize in nine different styles of Shaker, Mission Style and raised-panel pieces for the bedroom. Included in these selections are beds (actually, there are more than 40 different beds available), dressers, chests, night stands, mule chests, armoires, chessers (wonderful chest/dresser combinations) and chifforobes. Blanket chests, jewelry armoires, cheval glass mirrors and padded foot-of-the-bed benches are also available. Dining room furniture -- or you could use this in the kitchen, as well -- consists of tables, chairs and hutches, in six to eight different styles. "We make all the hutches right here in our shop," Myron said. "And although the tables and chairs are made elsewhere in the area, they are brought here unfinished. We do all the finishing here so everything will match." Because each piece of furniture is made exclusively for you, you can choose from many different options of style, wood (oak, cherry, hickory or maple), stain color, finish and hardware. Furniture is crafted from the best quality Upstate New York and Western Pennsylvania hardwoods, kiln-dried and delivered to Four Corners with just the right moisture content in it. By the way, did you know your home should be kept at 40-50 percent humidity to prohibit the expansion or contraction of your wooden furniture? Four Corners does extensive testing on their finishes to assure your normal, daily living won't damage the finish on your furniture. "Water spots won't damage our finishes," Myron said. "Even nail-polish remover won't damage them." The furniture from Four Corners is carefully hand-crafted, and if any problems do occur (they happen very rarely because of the expert inspection process that takes place), they'll be taken care of as soon as possible. Myron said, "It's been proven if a customer has a problem with a product, and it's corrected quickly or to their satisfaction, they'll end up telling more people about the product than if there was never a problem! We want to be sure our customers are very, very satisfied with their furniture and our service. "Our customers are our best advertisement," Myron admitted. "We know our furniture will last for years and years, and it will no doubt be handed down to future generations -- that's our guarantee. When our furniture is in someone's home, their family and friends will notice it." Mark your calendars now for an upcoming sale at Four Corners. On the first weekend in August (the 4th 5th), they will be having an openhouse to celebrate the grand opening of their new showroom and the 8th anniversary of the business. There will be discounts on everything, and there will be refreshments, as well! So if new bedroom or dining room furniture is in your plans for the near future (either the whole room full of furniture or just a piece or two), be sure to check out Four Corners Furniture. Youll be so glad you stopped "down on the farm" to make your selection of new, Amish-crafted furniture. I'm sure you'll be pleased with what you see. And you know what? I never really asked Myron just what the "four corners" are. I guess youll have to do that for yourself when you go down the lane for quality furniture.
